Donna Seegars Givens, born Florence, South Carolina 1963; admitted in 1988 to South Carolina Bar; also admitted to U.S. District Court of South Carolina and U. S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit.
Legal Background: Upon graduation from Law School, served as law clerk to the Honorable David Walker Harwell, Justice, South Carolina Supreme Court, 1988-1990; served as judicial law clerk to Honorable David C. Norton, United States District Court Judge, Charleston Division, 1990-1991; Entered private practice and achieved partnership in five years at Brown & Woods, litigating cases all over the state of South Carolina. Formed Woods & Givens in 1997 and served as managing partner for ten years, while enjoying a statewide litigation and mediation practice. Joined Kernodle, Root & Coleman March 2, 2009, to spearhead the opening of the firm’s Midlands office.

Professional Activities and Achievements: Immediate Past President of South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association, and Office of Executive Committee, having been the second female in 45 years to serve as President of our civil defense organization in this state; member of Defense Research Institute; Member American Bar Association; Supreme Court Appointed Commissioner to Commission on Alternative Dispute Resolution, current serving Second Term; Prior Member of Commission on Grievances and Discipline; Appointed by South Carolina Bar President to serve on newly formed HELP task force for lawyers; Certified Mediator and Arbitrator since 1996, having mediated and arbitrated in excess of 500 cases as the parties’ chosen neutral in counties all over the state.
